80 Metres of Protection. Zero Fixings. One Smart Solution.
Not your average scaffolding job.
Working on a petrol station forecourt presents challenges that conventional scaffolding arrangements don’t always solve.
Midas Structural required safe edge protection around approximately 80 metres of an L-shaped canopy while its team carried out roof works.
The system needed to protect workers at height, avoid fixing anything to the canopy and leave sufficient space beneath for mobile access equipment.
The solution had to be carefully planned around the forecourt’s infrastructure and site restrictions at Tregolls Road, Truro, Cornwall.
The Challenge
80 METRES OF PROTECTION.
ZERO ROOM FOR SHORTCUTS.
- 01Approximately 80 metres of continuous canopy edge protection.
- 02No fixings or loads permitted on the canopy.
- 03Space required for mobile access platforms beneath the structure.
- 04Specialist safety planning around fuel infrastructure, vehicle movements and site access.
The Solution
LESS OBSTRUCTION.
MORE ROOM TO WORK.

Rather than surrounding the canopy with a conventional scaffold, Tubix developed a ground-standing arrangement using eight freestanding towers.
Long-span aluminium beams connected the towers to form a continuous edge-protection system around the canopy perimeter.
The wider gaps between towers allowed Midas’s mobile access equipment to operate beneath the canopy.
A dedicated HAKI staircase provided pedestrian access to roof level.
The result was a carefully planned system designed around the actual work taking place.
The Engineering
THE DETAILS MAKE THE DIFFERENCE.
The canopy’s unusual footprint required a carefully considered scaffold arrangement.
The design used braced aluminium beams to span between ground-standing towers while maintaining the required edge protection.
The installation also needed to account for underground services, safe equipment movement and access to the canopy.
Specialist scaffold design support was provided by DH Solutions.
BETTER TOGETHER.
A special thank-you to DH Solutions for their specialist scaffold design support and to Midas Structural for trusting the Tubix team with the project.
Safety & Compliance
SAFETY ISN’T AN EXTRA.
IT’S PART OF THE JOB.
The project required site-specific risk assessment, method statements and careful coordination around a petrol station environment, including fuel infrastructure, vehicle movements and access.
- CHAS accredited (Standard)
- CISRS Advanced qualified scaffolders
- Specialist scaffold design checks
- Site-specific risk assessment and method statement
- Scaffold inspection and handover
Installation & Handover
PLANNED PROPERLY.
DELIVERED PROFESSIONALLY.
The canopy edge-protection installation was completed and handed over for Midas Structural’s works.
The arrangement provided perimeter protection and dedicated roof access while preserving working space beneath the canopy.
The project was delivered within a one-week hire arrangement.
